Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American stage and film actress. The most well-known role she has played is was that of Teri, the passionate attorney Teri Jospehson, on the Showtime television series Soul Food. Contractor was born in Mumbai and lived in Nigeria for seven years experienced a variety of trips and experiences in the world of culture at an early age. The boarding school she attended was in London between seven and nine years old, then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her early childhood and adulthood. Contractor was an outstanding pupil in Toronto and was educated to become the classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school in which she studied not only dance, but also theater. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that acting would be her future career. Dance was her passion for over a decade. As she finished high school with a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year of auditions, she was offered the leading role. After the show ran for 92 times, she was rewarded with positive reviews. The play was deemed the top production by Canadian the critics. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory, a program which allows just four men and eight females can attend the 20-week crash training in classical theater. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season. She was also offered the part as Hermia.
